Perry Evans and Mike Hughes of Monkmoor were the 2026 winners of the Wem League Doubles held at the Prince of Wales Hotel Bowling Green.

There were seventeen entries and they all played some excellent bowls on a lightening fast green.

Mike and Perry’s path to the final saw them beat three pairs from the Prince Hotel with first Craig Breeze and Lee Walmsley losing 21-16, then Di Pugh and Greg Jones 21-2 and Nigel Ferrington and Darren Powis 21-19 in the semi final.

Their opponents in the final were County Junior pair Jack Cooke (Monkmoor) and Ellis Griffiths (Prince Hotel) who started with a 21-18 against Peter Thomas and Mel Wornell (Prince Hotel), Liam and Toby Griffiths (Unison) 21-14 before a stunning win over Jack’s father Andy and Stuart Dorsett (Monkmoor) 21-1 in the semi final.

The final started as a close affair with Ellis and Jack edging it to lead 13-10 before a rapid finish from Perry and Mike saw them score nine chalks in the last four ends to win 21-15.
